Shinan district drives tech-led productivity leap in Qingdao

Shinan district in Qingdao has recently been honored at the Shandong Province Science and Technology Conference, with 13 projects receiving the 2023 Shandong Province Science and Technology Award.
Entities from the district accounted for more than 17 percent of the city's technical invention awards and 14 percent of the scientific and technological progress awards, highlighting its commitment to technological innovation as a catalyst for a modern industrial system.

Among the district's scientific and technological achievements, decoding of the oyster genome stands out the most and has led to new varieties like "Oyster No 1". This advancement has not only established a new industry of triploid oyster aquaculture but also driven a transformation in China's oyster industry, bring it up to modern standards, with an industry value increase in over 100 million yuan ($14.01 million).
In the first half of this year, the district's science and technology service industry reported income of 3.68 billion yuan, marking a 9 percent year-on-year increase. The registered technical contract transaction amount exceeded 2.1 billion yuan, earning Shinan the distinction of being one of China's top 100 innovative districts for two consecutive years.
