Museums in Shinan district granted national first-class status

Three museums in Qingdao's Shinan district were recently evaluated by the Chinese Museums Association as national first-class museums.

Among them, the Museum of the Former German Governor's House, located at No 26 Longshan Road, stands out as a renowned museum featuring modern architectural relics. Designed by a German architect, the museum, resembling a European castle, showcases the pinnacle of German architectural art in China.

Another distinguished museum is the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy's Museum, hailed as the largest and most comprehensive navy-themed museum in China. With over 4,000 exhibits on both land and sea, it vividly narrates the history and development of the PLA Navy, embodying the essence of a great naval power.

Lastly, the Qingdao Marine Museum, also known as the Qingdao Aquarium, holds the distinction of being China's first aquarium. Established by notable figures like educator and politician Cai Yuanpei, the museum opened in 1932 and has made significant contributions to modern marine science education in China.
In addition to these three national first-class museums, Shinan district boasts three more national museums at level three or above. These include the Qingdao Folk Museum and the Qingdao Fire Museum.
