Qingdao breathes new life into old residential areas

As the birthplace of Qingdao's modern history, Shinan district in Qingdao is a key-protected area showcasing Qingdao's humanistic charm and history.
Within this area, there are 10 historical and cultural blocks, and 58 historical residences of notable figures, 70 cultural heritage sites, 239 immovable cultural relics, 257 historical buildings, and 973 examples of traditional architecture.
Over an area of 30.01 square kilometers, 80 percent of Qingdao's tourist parks, outstanding pieces of architecture, and historical residences are located here, witnessing the slow sedimentation of a century-old history within the urban area.
Historical and cultural blocks bear the city's memories and showcase the city's charm and vitality. Since the initiation of the three-year campaign for urban renewal and development, Shinan district has adhered to the principles of "authentic protection, complete preservation, and sustainable utilization."
The district has launched various trendy art exhibitions, including the Dunhuang Digital Art Exhibition, as well as a diverse array of nighttime activities, such as immersive dining shows, hot pot festivals, and night markets, creating a hub for fashionable nighttime economic activities.
