Shinan sees strong growth in digital economy

Shinan district in Qingdao is emerging as a key player in the digital economy, with the added value of the industry reaching 28 billion yuan ($3.88 billion) in the district in 2023, marking a 30 percent annual increase and accounting for 18 percent of the district's GDP.
Known as the birthplace of the software and information industry in Qingdao, Shinan district boasts many large enterprises in the Internet, software, and information technology services sectors, making up 21 percent of all companies involved in these sectors in the city.
It was also recognized in 2023 as a pioneer in Shandong province for its advancements in information infrastructure, industrial digitization and digital industrialization.
Recent years have witnessed rapid progress in upgrading the Qingdao Metaverse Industry Innovation Park and Digital Economy Industry Innovation Park in Shinan district. The establishment of the Dayou Intelligent Computing Center, a 3-billion-yuan investment, in the Metaverse Industry Innovation Park showcases the district's commitment to technological advancement. The center's first phase, featuring 600P computing power, is set to be operational by June 2024.
Moreover, the district has been proactive in promoting industrial digitalization through initiatives like "cloud brain+", "platform+" and "smart+", aiming for comprehensive digital transformation. Efforts such as developing the "internet + medical health" platform highlight innovative approaches to integrated online and offline medical services.
Additionally, Shinan district has leveraged the digital economy to introduce projects like the smart parking platform and the digitization of historic and cultural areas.
