Recently, Shinan district in Qingdao was included in the fourth batch of "regional tourism demonstration areas in Shandong province".
As an important center of politics, economy, culture and tourism in Qingdao, Shinan serves as the only place in China that is listed as one of "the most beautiful gulfs in the world" by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
In addition to a number of famous tourist landmarks such as Zhanqiao Pier and Badaguan, Shinan also boasts a total of 13 A-level scenic spots and 58 former residences of celebrities. On top of that, a quarter of Qingdao's starred hotels are located in the district.
Shinan is also a hot spot for holding big events. The sailing competitions of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games took place in Shinan, as well as the 2018 Shanghai Cooperation Qingdao Summit.
In recent years, Shinan has been striving to build the entire district into a tourism destination, and its tourism industry is listed as one of the six leading ones. Presently, Shinan is trying to build two 5A-level scenic spots, four advantageous tourism business formats and three industrial clusters in the tourism sector.
As the main venue of the 2023 Shandong Tourism Development Conference, which is scheduled to be held this month, Shinan plans to seize the opportunity to inject new energy into its tourism industry.
