During the Spring Festival holiday, which took place from Jan 21 to 27 this year, the most bustling place in Qingdao was undoubtedly the old downtown area, which was filled with a festive atmosphere.

According to Wang Yuyu, a Shinan resident who lived in the old downtown area when he was a child, the area is becoming more lively with light shows, performances, and snack vendors. For Wang, it is beyond question that the area will be more successful with the addition of a wide range of leisure facilities that have been newly added to the old downtown area.

During the holiday, the first edition of Shangjieli cultural festival opened on Jan 25 and attracted hundreds of visitors. At the opening ceremony, traditional and modern elements were weaved together to present marvelous performances.

At the same time, exhibitions showcasing famous local artists' works were also held in the old downtown area, which attracted crowds of local shutterbugs.

In recent years, Shinan has strived to protect the culture in the old downtown area and utilize it to promote the cultural tourism industry. This year, Shinan is expected to present more cultural brands and hold more cultural events.
