The first Shangjieli Beer Festival kicked off with the fresh scent of ice-cold beer in Qingdao's Shinan district on July 22.

A variety of local and exotic cultural performances were staged at the opening ceremony, and visitors were able to tickle their taste buds with the wide array of fresh beers on tap and beer-flavored bread and ice cream.

The organizers have set up a number of beer houses and stalls across the historical block to create a "beer city without borders" for the remaining 10 days of the event.

In addition, fashion shows, music parties, and a whisky and dessert display will be held in local historical courtyards, showcasing the enchanting combination of past and present.
