Guanxiang Mountain in Shinan district, Qingdao, Shandong province, got its name for being home to the Tsingtao Observatory. Guanxiang means observing astronomical phenomena in Chinese.
The Tsingtao Observatory, which is located at 36.04 degrees north latitude and 120.19 degrees east longitude, is one of the birthplaces of China's contemporary astronomy and has played an important role in the development of China's modern meteorology and oceanic research.
The observatory is also responsible for scientific education in addition to scientific research. It has long been a renowned tourist destination that combines sightseeing with academic pursuits.

Atop Guanxiang Mountain stands a stone house, which marks China's leveling origin. It is from this leveling origin that the summit of Qomolangma, known as Mount Everest in the West, was measured.
People can get a nice view of the unique red-roofed historic buildings at the foot of Guanxiang Mountain while standing on the mountain's summit. It is also the ideal place to see Qingdao at night.
