The Shinan district of Qingdao city – located in East China's Shandong province – recently launched a slew of cultural events to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, according to local media reports on Oct 15.

A flash mob – a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform for a brief time, then quickly disperse – took place. It involved drums and percussion and was recently held in local scenic areas, such as the Olympic Sailing Center and the Taipingjiao Scenic Area.

Spectators said a marching percussion band changed its formation – to a bright rhythm, with steady maneuvers and precision coordination – showcasing the vitality and vibrancy of young people in Shinan. 

In addition, a concert for the hand pan – a convex steel drum played with the hands – was held on Oct 5 at the Qingdao Concert Hall, which entertained drum and percussion lovers.
