On July 18, the Confucianism Guqin Institute of the Qingdao Guqin Association was officially opened in Shinan district of Qingdao city – located in East China's Shandong province – marking the addition of another facility for intangible cultural heritage in the community.
The guqin is seven-stringed zither without bridges, the most classical Chinese instrument with over 3000 years of history. Beloved of sages and of Confucius, it is one the most prestigious instruments in the country.
The new institute was jointly founded by the Qingdao Guqin Association, the Shinan District Culture and Tourism Bureau, as well as the Xianggang Middle Road Sub-district Office.
It is also reportedly one of the first district-level intangible cultural heritage inheritance facilities and bases for Chinese traditional culture listed in the district.
