The intertwined development of its culture and tourism has seen Qingdao Western Old Town – located in the Shinan district of Qingdao city in East China's Shandong province – transform into a place with real buzz, especially at its bookstores at night, according to local media reports.

The new round of city renewal has fully taken into account the need to expand the cultural industry, urban functions, the economical utilization of land, the multiple use of public squares, among other things. It has respected the existing reading culture of the bookstores in Shinan, while engaging in planning and development.
