An event was held in Shinan district, Qingdao on June 23 to celebrate the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on June 25 this year.

A chorus marked the opening of the event and local government officials offered warm festival greetings to residents.

Paper-cuts, pyrographs, and Suzhou embroideries were made by talented artisans at the themed bazaar. Artists included Zhang Han, a recognized provincial-level craftsman, and Zhou Guanyun, a member of the Qingdao Art and Crafts Association.

During the event, many locals experienced at making zongzi, a traditional Dragon Boat Festival treat made of glutinous rice, were invited as well.

Background on the festival was presented on a bus, including the festival’s history, influential historical figures, and traditional customs. Interactive games also piqued residents’ interest.

The bus won praise from residents as a way to spread traditional culture and help people learn more about the Dragon Boat Festival

After the event, a volunteer group helped deliver the zongzi to several local impoverished families and sent them festival greetings.
