The Museum of Rickshaw Boy, located at No 12 Huangxian Road in Shinan district, is China's first professional museum named after a famous literary work.
It is also the former residence of the famous Chinese writer, Lao She, who lived here in the 1930s when he was a teacher at the Chinese Department of National Shandong University. At that time, Lao She wrote the famous novel "Rickshaw Boy" and other excellent literary works such as "Dr Wen" and "My Whole Life".
In 2008, Qingdao municipal government and Shinan district government co-invested over 14 million yuan ($2.04 million) on the renovation of Lao She's former residence and turned it into the current museum. The museum opened to the public for free since May 24, 2010, and has so far received over 560,000 visitors from home and abroad.
