Qingdao Port welcomes largest container vessel

CSCL Globe, the world's largest container ship of China Shipping Container Lines Co., arrived at Qingdao Port, Shandong province, on Dec 4, and finished handling over 3,000 twenty equivalent-unit (TEU) containers.
Costing about $150 million, CSCL Globe, built by South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries, is 400 meters in length and 60 meters in width, with the designed drafts 14.5 meters. It can carry 19,100 TEU containers.
The China Shipping Container Lines Co. launched the maiden voyage for its largest container ship at Tianjin Port on Dec 2. The ship will call at the ports including Qingdao in Shandong province, Dalian in Liaoning province, Felixstowe in Britain, Rotterdam in Netherlands and Hamburg in Germany over its 70-day voyage.
The Qingdao Port has handled an increasing number of container vessels in recent years. From 2010 to 2014, the number of container vessels with over 12,000 TEU containers calling at Qingdao Port has increased to 349. Danish container vessel Mary Maersk made its maiden voyage at Qingdao Port on Sept 18, 2013.
