The Yellow River Delta National Nature Reserve in Dongying, East China's Shandong province, is one of the stops on the East Asian-Australasian Flyway and the West Pacific Flyway.

In recent years, the ecological condition of the reserve has had remarkable improvements. Monitoring results from 2025 show 233 nests of oriental white storks were recorded in the nature reserve, with 536 chicks hatched — a record high.

To date, the cumulative number of oriental white storks bred in the reserve has reached 4,260, while the breeding population of Saunders's gulls has remained stable at over 10,000 individuals.
