Canada has reached out to Dongying city – located in East China's Shandong province – to join forces with it in the promotion of growth in the petrochemicals and energy sectors.
Senior Trade Commissioner at the Canadian embassy in China, Francis Huot, led a delegation to Dongying from Dec 10 to 13 – seeking to strengthen cooperation in areas such as clean petrochemicals technology, oil equipment and crude oil trading.
On Dec 11, talks about clean technology and crude oil trading took place between China and Canada, with keynote speeches made by Wang Xiufeng, deputy mayor of Dongying and Huot.
Canadian province Alberta presented investment opportunities there, while eight Canadian companies showcased innovative technologies and a dozen local Dongying chemical and equipment manufacturing enterprises highlighted their capabilities.
The event is said to have provided a platform for in-depth discussions on technology needs and potential joint projects.

During the visit, the delegation toured six chemical and oilfield production equipment manufacturers and explored Dongying Port's 5G+ Smart Chemical Park and oil product terminals. Its members also focused on cooperative projects in petrochemical clean technology, oilfield services expansions abroad and on crude oil trading.
The delegation went on to hold talks with the operators of the Sinopec Shengli Oilfield to discuss collaboration in oil and gas technologies – particularly Sinopec's CCUS, or Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage technology.
