The painting's focal point captures the confluence of the Yellow River and the blue sea. Surrounding this scene are the Chinese characters representing Dongying, composed of the city's most iconic elements: the character "东" crafted from a beam pumping unit, clay sculptures, and paper-cuttings; "营" featuring lotus flowers, traditional Chinese weapons, pan-fried buns, and boats. Musical notes symbolize Dongying's Haihe Music Festival, while a soaring bird represents its abundant wildlife.
The American students also expressed their thoughts through brush strokes, writing "We appreciate the chance to explore traditional Chinese culture like paper-cutting, sugar painting, and dough sculpture." "I love Dongying culture!" and "Goodbye, Dongying! I'll miss you." These sentiments reflect their deep affection for the city.
