Feng Xinyan, one of the chief experts of the State Grid, has been elected as a delegate to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

When he was initially transferred from a power transmission and transformation company to an ultrahigh-voltage power company under the State Grid, Feng found he was the only one with technical secondary schooling, the lowest educational background among nine of the company's new employees.

Feng was dissatisfied with his performance in a skill competition in 2003 and began to work harder toward his profession. He studied diligently, practiced strenuously and confirmed his belief that greater efforts were needed.

Feng took notes while reading books on power grid technology, absorbing professional knowledge like a sponge to make up for his weak academic qualifications. His hard work and experience helped sharpen his expertise. In 2018, he obtained his master's degree in engineering.

Feng can easily identify problems and solve them. In 2015, an inspector was unable to troubleshoot an abnormal-sounding transformer. Feng gave a detailed and accurate solution without even having to visit the site.

He explained that his mental "database" contains everything he's learned after more than 20 years in the field.

Feng's ability to solve such puzzling cases, along with his uncanny memory, has earned him the nickname: "Sherlock Holmes of Grid State".
