IP court judges lecture at Renmin University of China

Judges of the fifth collegial panel of the Intellectual Property Court of the Supreme People's Court, led by the panel's presiding judge Xu Yanru, held a symposium in the Law School of the university of Renmin University of China (RUC) on April 27.

The judges introduced the functions of the Intellectual Property (IP) Court and talked about China's new initiatives for judicial protection of intellectual property rights.

More than 30 professors, teachers and students took part in the meeting, including Guo He, professor and vice-dean of RUC's Intellectual Property College.

The symposium was themed on the IP Court and the national-level intellectual property appellatetrial mechanism.

Xu described the basic situation of the IP Court and interpreted its role and significance from the perspective of building strong IP power and increasing China's world science and technology power, as well as deepening judicial reform.

Xu also reviewed the establishment of the IP appellate trial mechanism at the national level, highlighting that the IP Court plays a significant role in setting standards for the trial of technical IP cases. In addition, he mentioned the innovation highlights of the court trial system and achievements made in bringing about intelligent trials.

The activity aims to make teachers and students have a better understanding about the IP Court, said Guo.

The attendees also discussed the scope of the cases of the IP court and the standards for patent infringement damages with judges.
