The Intellectual Property (IP) Court of the Supreme People's Court launched a lecture series activity at universities in Beijing on the occasion of the 19th World Intellectual Property Day that fell on April 26 this year.

The lectures were held at Tsinghua University, North China University of Technology, and Renmin University of China, respectively, aiming to promote knowledge of the IP Court and the status quo of judicial protection.

Shen Hongyu, Ren Xiaolan and Cui Ning, judges of the second collegial panel of the IP Court, gave lectures themed on the IP Court and the new development of China's IP judicial protection on April 26 at Tsinghua University.

Shen introduced the IP Court and its role in the judicial protection of intellectual property rights. She introduced the establishment of the IP Court, the organization and personnel of the court, as well as the court's role, responsibilities and work objectives.

Ren highlighted the first case of the IP court and the patent litigation-related legal issues in the case. She shared her views on some related legal issues and analyzed the special procedures involved.

Cui shared the IP court's reform exploration of the patent invalidation procedure. He introduced the proposal of the reform and improvement of the patent invalidation procedure that was put forward by Luo Dongchuan, vice-president of the Supreme People's Court, at this year’s two sessions. In addition, Cui analyzed how the Anglo-American law system and major civil law countries deal with this issue.

Attendees at the event included staff from the State Intellectual Property Office, lawyers, and students from Tsinghua University and other universities. They discussed issues about court construction and judicial reform with the judges after the lecture.
