“World Thrombosis Day” China-Barbados Thrombosis Symposium held
Oct 13 is World Thrombosis Day. The third Chinese medical team to Barbados jointly held the “China-Barbados Thrombosis Symposium” with Queen Elisabeth Hospital (QEH). This symposium marks the first time QEH has participated in a world-wide medical event.

Chinese medical team members post event notices. The team members were fully engaged in the planning, promotion, and organization of the symposium.
The medical team proposed co-hosting an event for 2018 World Thrombosis Day to the QEH. The proposal was well-received by the hospital. After multiple rounds of discussions and negotiations, the two sides decided to co-host the “China-Barbados Thrombosis Symposium”.
The symposium was chaired by the director of the department of cardiology, Dr. Stephen Moe.
Chinese primary nurse Ms. Liu Zhenzhen, Dr. Sunyang, and Dr. Fu Qining gave lectures on disease risk assessment of venous thrombosis, ultrasound diagnosis and surgical intervention, among other topics. And from QEH, Dr. Kimberley Taylor and Cheryl Alexis from the Hematology Department, as well as Dr. Trudy Griffith, gave interpretations on identification of thrombosis-prone individuals, anticoagulant drugs and the role of pharmacists. Discussions were held after the lectures with the audience present.

This symposium was the first large-scale academic event held by the Chinese medical team to Barbados designed for the aided hospital. It is an innovative approach that enhances medical aid in terms of form and content. Through co-hosting successful events like this, the medical team enhances its influence.
