Zhong Jing, an elected representative of Guizhou province for the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, has won the praise of local residents for her sense of responsibility and hard work.

Zhong, a 34-year-old doctor, has spent the last eight years taking care of villagers after quitting her job at a large hospital in the provincial capital of Guiyang and moving to Longhe village in Zhenfeng county, Qianxinan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture, in 2008 with her husband. 

When her husband had to transfer to another post in Xingyi, however, she decided to stay behind, as most of the village's young people had moved to larger cities in order to earn a living, and the left-behind children and elderly often lacked care. 

Noticing the need of Longhe's villagers, Zhong purchased physiotherapy instruments and opened her own clinic to provide medical care. She spent 20,000 yuan ($3,200) to set up the office, and made traditional Chinese medicine on her own, offering treatment to villagers. 

Zhong visits each household at least once a week to give them medical advice and regularly visits paralyzed seniors in their homes to offer medical checks and treatment.

"Villagers never need to worry about waiting in crowded hospitals to see a doctor when they are sick, because they have their own village physician to take care of them." says Zhong. 

To improve medical services in her clinic, Zhong often invites famous doctors from across Guizhou province to the village to give training lectures. 

Apart from providing quality medical care, Zhong also does her bit to lead local villagers to a better life. She has an ambitious plan to open a health care center, offering a place to plant traditional Chinese medicinal herbs and a rehabilitation center for patients to recuperate.
