Plantains increase rural incomes
Updated: 2017-10-10
Farmers are busy harvesting plantains in Langxing, Qianxinan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture.
Langxing is a village comprised of 196 people of the Bouyei ethnic group. Eight people of the village are recognized as impoverished by the local government.
Encouraged by the local government, impoverished residents in the village began planting plantains to sell to neighboring cities and provinces.
"A client from Yunnan province called yesterday and ordered 150 kilograms of plantains," said Wei Chaozuo, a farmer from Langxing. With the price of one yuan ($0.15) per kilogram, Wei can earn more than 100 yuan every day during harvest time.
