Updated: 2017-09-27

The Shanghai-Guizhou Chamber of Commerce plans to invest 200 million yuan ($30.12 million) to promote mutton rice noodles, a local delicacy of Xingyi city in Qianxinan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture.

The chamber of commerce signed an agreement with the Xingyi government on Sept 25 promising to open 200 restaurants serving the noodles in the Yangtze River Delta region.

Xingyi city is known as "the hometown of mutton rice noodles", attracting lots of foodies from home and abroad.

The local government is trying to alleviate poverty through promoting the dish to draw more tourists and create more jobs for local residents.

The deal agreed by the Xingyi government and the Shanghai-Guizhou Chamber of Commerce is expected to improve the lives of more than 500 poverty-stricken families.
