Updated: 2017-09-06
Pu'an county in the Qianxinan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture was recently listed among China's 10 most charming tea villages of 2017, local media reported on Sept 5.
The list was launched by the China Association for the Promotion of International Agricultural Cooperation and the Chinese Society of Economic Collaboration and Travel to praise the most revered tea-growing regions in China.
Other villages to make the list include Shucheng county in Anhui province, Chao'an district in Guangdong province, Zhaoping county in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, Guzhang county in Hunan province, Fuliang county in Shanxi province, Zhenba county in Shaanxi province, Naxi district of Luzhou in Sichuan province, Ning'er Hani and Yi autonomous county in Yunnan province and An'ji county in Zhejiang province.
Renowned Pu'an tea has been dubbed the "First Spring Tea in Guizhou" for its early picking period, which is 10-20 days ahead of other regions in the province.
Pu'an county's burgeoning tea industry can be attributed to the region's abundant geothermal activity and its 1,100-meter basin, according to Wang Zhongbang, director of the local tea development center.
The county's tea planting area totals 126,000 mu (8,400 hectares), yielding 5,850 tons a year and bringing in 117 million yuan ($17.9 million), according to local officials.
The local authority is also striving to integrate culture with the tea industry to stimulate the regional economy.
