One of the most important traditional festivals of the Yi ethnic group, the Torch Festival was held in Lubuge town, Xingyi city, Qianxinan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture, on July 17.

Worshiping fire as a symbol of light and enthusiasm, the Yi people celebrate the Torch Festival on the 17th day of every seventh lunar month. The festival often attracts many people from around Guizhou, Yunnan and the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

Tranditional Yi dances and acrobatics were performed during the festival, with bonfires being lit and fireworks displays as the festival reached its climax. People sang and danced around the bonfires while holding hands.
