Guizhou embraces tea picking season
By Yan Weijue and Xu Qilin Updated: 2017-02-06
Famers have begun to pick tea leaves in Pu’an county, Southwest China’s Guizhou province, according to a report in Guizhou Daily on Feb 3.
The renowned Pu’an tea has been dubbed the “First Spring Tea in Guizhou” for the early picking period, which is 10-20 days ahead of other regions in the province.
The reason behind Pu’an’s burgeoning tea industry can be attributed to the abundant geothermal activity and a 1,100-meter basin, according to Wang Zhongbang, director of the local tea development center.
Wang claimed that Pu’an has produced more than 1,000 kilograms of tea every day since Jan 28, with the intensive tea-picking season still one week away.
