Maling Gorge Scenic Spot was among the third group of national key scenic spots approved by the State Council in 1994. It consists of three parts: Maling Gorge, Wanfeng Forest, and Wanfeng Lake. Located in Xingyi City, it covers 450 square kilometers among mountains at the junction of Guizhou, Yunnan and Guangxi. It has a great number of human antiquities, a profound ethnic charm, and a warm and humid climate. The average annual temperature is 15 to 18 degrees Celsius.

Maling Gorge is 74.8 km long, 50~150 m wide and 120~280 m deep; the bottom of the valley is 200 m below ground level. It is called the "most beautiful scar in the world". 

Maling Gorge is also a good place for river boating. It is one of the top ten river boating destinations in China and the birthplace of Chinese whitewater kayaking. On April 12, 1998, the gorge hosted China's 1st International Whitewater Kayaking Competition. It's possible to drift along Maling Gorge for 50 km, passing over 80 dangerous shoals, 70 deep pools and 60 bays. On November 26, 2005, the first National Open Election Whitewater Kayaking Competition for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games was held in Maling Gorge, and, since then, the gorge has been named the 'national training base of whitewater kayaking' by the General Administration of Sport of China.

Self-driving: drive from Guihuang Road to Guanxing Road

Bus route: take No.4 Bus from Xingyi to Maling Gorge (the bus fee is one yuan).

Ticket: 80 yuan/person/time; elevator: 30 yuan/person/time; drifting: 198 yuan/person/time; people between 60 and 70 years old, students and teachers may enjoy a fifty percent discount with a valid certificate; those over 70 years old, the disabled, enlisted army members, reporters, guides and children below 14 holding a valid certificate are entitled to free tickets.

Tips: 

1. The Shengshi Miao Family puts on a 'Nine-Song Everlasting Joy' Miao Nationality Custom Performance for free in the scenic spot at 20:00 every day. 

2. The scenic spot offers a paid performance of 'Bouyei Eight-sound Singing', which should be reserved in advance; the price is 1,000 yuan per tourism bus. 

3. All prices should be confirmed by the price list in the scenic spot's ticket hall. 

4. During flood season, be prepared with suitable clothing.
