Anlong lotus growing improves local incomes

Anlong county in Qianxinan Bouyi and Miao autonomous region, has a history of more than 150 years of growing lotus. With 200 hectares of growing area, the county has an annual turnover of 15 million yuan ($2.23 million) from producing lotus roots.
In 2001, Anlong started to adjust its plantation structure, transferring 133 hectares of rice fields to growing lotus. Businesses engaged in lotus root production were also introduced to the county, and the lotus root starch is now sold to Guangxi, Yunan, Sichuan and other provinces.
