In October 2015, the 1st International Mountain Tourism Conference was held in Qianxinan prefecture, Guizhou province. One September of this year, the 2016 International Mountain Tourism & Outdoor Sport Conference opened in Qianxinan.

The first International Mountain Tourism & Outdoor Sport Conference, held this year, attracted over 1,400 guests from 39 countries and regions to discuss sustainable development, consumption and investment of mountain tourism and to explore the development mode of mountain tourism.

Qianxinan started improving its infrastructure and environment in 2015 to guarantee the success of the tourism conferences. According to local government, the prefecture received 2.38 million tourists during the golden week of 2015 ‘National Day’, a year-on-year increase of 27.66 percent. Total tourism income reached 1.66 billion yuan with a year-on-year increase of 28.11 percent. The number of visitors and the ticket income at the three national 4A level scenic spots in Qianxinan hit record highs.

Qianxinan has also sped up infrastructure construction to support tourism development. The expansion of Xingyi Wanfenglin Airport was put into service on July 21, 2016. In addition, the province is also encouraging Qianxinan to apply for national low altitude navigation and to speed up the construction of Yilong General Aviation Airport and Zhenfeng Double-breast Mountain Tourism Airport. It supports the construction of a Qianxinan Smart Tourism Platform and Village Smart Tourism Service Platform. It also advises accelerated construction of free WIFI projects and renovation of scenic spots, expressway service zones and restrooms in scenic spots.

Qianzinan took advantage of the international mountain tourism conference platform to sign 66 industrial projects, covering areas such as mountain tourism, outdoor sports, health and fitness, new-type energy and big data. It has planned and carried out renovation and construction projects for scenic spots, village tourism, mountain sports, tourism transportation, hotel construction, smart tourism and supporting services.

The 2016 International Mountain Tourism & Outdoor Sport Conference improved the prefecture’s infrastructure. The whole prefecture has 28 key construction projects and 91 branch projects with total investment of 14.8 billion yuan. As they are critical to mountain tourism growth, upgrade projects at Wanfeng Forest, Maling River Canyon, Wanfeng Lake and 24-Round are listed as key projects.
