Keichousaurus fossils were found in Lvyin Village, Xingyi City in 1957. The fossils dates back 240 million years and belongs to the reptile diapsida. The fossil was the first to be found in China and Asia. Keichousaurus is representative of the Triassic marine reptiles found in China, and enjoys a great reputation in the international academic field. It is an attraction of the Xingyi National Geologic Park, which houses the Keichousaurus Musuem, the Dingxiao Keichousaurus Investigation Work Station of CAS Ancient Vertebrate and Ancient Humankind Research, the Paleontological Relics Scientific Research Station, the Museum Science Lecture Hall, the Lvyin Bouyei Nationality Ancient Village, Ma’an Mountain, Phoenix Mountain, Houlong Mountain, and Five-finger. There are also early anthropological attractions such as the Maomao Cave Ancient Humankind Heritage, the Yingpan Mountain Ancient Village Relics and the Shuijingwan Yelang Cultural Relic Unearthed Place.

Keichousaurus lived in the mid Triassic 210 million years ago. It had a small brain, a long neck and a wide and oblate body, similar to a Plesiosaur. Its limbs had a kind of claw, so it could creep like a crocodile. It lived in water most of the time, and fed on fish and other small aquatic animals.
