Folk Custom and Culture

Because it has many ethnic groups, Qianxinan has many ethnic festivals, such as "March 3rd" and "June 6th" of the Bouyei people, and "August 8th" and "Flower-Picking Festival" of the Miao. Many folk customs here are on the National Cultural Heritage list, including "Maiden dancing without musical accompaniment" (or "Oriental Tap Dance") of the Yi people, "8 musical instrument performance", "Bronze drum performance", "Zhabai song festival", paper–making, and drama of the Bouyei people.

Tourism

The area is also famous for its splendid landscape, such as: the Wanfeng Forest, which stretches for thousands of meters and is a wonderland; Wanfeng Lake in Wanfeng, the prefecture's greatest lake; Maling Gorge, which is called the "most beautiful scar on the world"; the national scenic spot at Zhenfeng Double-breast Mountain, which is seen as the embodiment of "Holy Mother on Earth"; as well as a national forest Crane Park; the Sancha River; the Nidang Stone Forest; Yunhu Mountain; and the Beipan Canyon. It is also a land with one of the largest collections of cone karst topography in the world. The prefecture had a total 19.08 million tourists in 2015, an increase of 25 percent year-on-year, with the number of locals traveling up 25.1 percent, and arriving tourists numbering 81,700 up 10.7 percent.
