On April 17, China Railway Hohhot Group Co, Ordos Energy Investment and Development Co, and Dongsheng District Urban Investment Company signed a cooperation agreement for the Ordos railway logistics base project.
The project, with a total investment of 397 million yuan ($54.38 million) and covering approximately 1,500 mu (about 100 hectares), will be on the eastern side of Dongsheng West Railway Station along the Baotou-Xi’an Railway.
The logistics base will integrate nine core functions, including railway operations, comprehensive services, intelligent warehousing, and automated sorting systems. In its initial phase, the facility is expected to handle an annual throughput of 2 million metric tons, reducing full-chain logistics costs by an estimated 30 percent.
The project will be key to supporting the land transport needs of major companies such as JA Solar and Chery New Energy. It will also connect with the airport logistics industrial park's dedicated railway line to establish an air-rail-road multimodal transport network.
Once fully operational, the base is projected to achieve an annual throughput exceeding 5 million tons and create 2,000 new jobs, positioning Ordos as a vital international logistics hub for the Belt and Road Initiative.
