The second phase of the pilot project for the China Three Gorges Corporation-Mengneng New Energy Base, located in the Kubuqi Desert in Ordos city, Inner Mongolia, was recently connected to the grid.
With a total installed capacity of 16 gigawatts, this is the world's largest "sand, desert, and barren land" new energy base.
It is also China's first approved 10 GW-level renewable energy mega-base and serves as a demonstration project for the "ecological base + green energy" industrial chain in Inner Mongolia.
The second-phase pilot project has an installed capacity of 1 GW. Once the entire project is operational, it is expected to produce 40 billion kilowatt-hours of green electricity annually.
