Ordos government report reveals economic highlights

The city of Ordos in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region released its government work report for 2023 at the fifth Ordos municipal people's congress on Jan 3. Highlights of the city's economic and social development achievements are as follows.
Main economic indicators reached high levels
In 2022, the city's GDP increased by 6 percent; and its general public budget revenue came in at 84.28 billion yuan ($12.2 billion), an increase of 52.7 percent.
Meanwhile, the investment in fixed assets of the city increased by 25 percent, the added value of industries above the designated size increased by 9 percent, and the growth rate of total retail sales for consumer goods in the city ranked first in the region.
Major breakthroughs made in talent introduction, science and technology innovation
Ordos was approved to build a national sustainable development innovation demonstration zone in 2022.
The research and development expenses of enterprises above the designated size last year exceeded 7 billion yuan, a record high, ranking first in the region in terms of both total volume and contribution.
Ordos ranked among the top 100 cities in the country for technological innovation and built a number of high-level innovation platforms such as the Ordos Energy Research Institute at Peking University.
During the same period, Ordos also introduced two academicians.
Industrial green and low-carbon transformation made new progress
A total of two 10-million-kilowatt national large-scale wind and solar bases were approved in Ordos.
The region's first large-scale photovoltaic module and the first modern hydrogen fuel cell stack were produced.
The investment in new energy industries increased by 113.6 percent, and the world's first 10,000-ton carbon dioxide-to-aromatics industrial pilot project started construction.
