The city of Ordos in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region has achieved leapfrog development of its digital industry since 2012 and it continues to do so.
Over a 10-year period, services driven by digital technology – including remote offices, online teaching, smart transportation and smart medical care – have been widely used in the city.
In 2013, Ordos coordinated the layout of two big data industry hubs: the cloud computing industrial park in the Ordos High-tech Industrial Park and the big data center in the Ordos airport area.
In 2018, in order to adapt to change and meet the needs of the city's economic and social development, Ordos established a big data development bureau.
In 2019, all nine banners and districts administered by Ordos established their own public information platforms, while 2,296 5G base stations were also installed in the city that year.
Last year, responding to the requirements for institutional reform, Ordos established the Ordos Big Data Center to coordinate and promote the development of a digital government, digital economy and digital society.
From 2012 to 2021, Ordo also launched a raft of plans – including the Digital Ordos Development Plan (2019-2025) and the Ordos Implementation Plan for the Integration of Smart City Construction in Hohhot-Baotou-Ordos (2021-2023).
To date, Ordos has introduced 10 industrial internet platforms and 35 smart mines, as well as 14 digital-powered farms and two digital-operated pastures.
Big data core industries – including the data collection, storage and processing sectors – have made rapid progress in Ordos, driving the development of its electronics information manufacturing, software and service information sectors.
