As the country's first 4A-level tourist attraction to be recognized for its healthy and clean urban landscape, the Kangbashi district of Ordos city – located in Inner Mongolia autonomous region – has undertaken concerted and consistent green and low-carbon practices.
In 2021, the air quality rate of Kangbashi was recorded to be higher than the average in the autonomous region.
A smart river and lake system was built in Kangbashi last year, and Kangbashi was awarded the honorary titles of National Greening Model Unit, National Ecological Civilization Construction Demonstration Zone, 2021 China Green Development Demonstration District, and it was also included in the fourth group of National Water-saving Counties.

Moreover, a few years ago, the district took the lead in realizing full coverage of pure electric buses. It also worked with the China Mobile Shanghai Research Institute to carry out a pilot test of 5G autonomous vehicles, becoming the first municipal open-road operation pilot project in northern China.
Plans are for the district in the current year to carry out such key tasks as developing a low-carbon industry and developing a green economy.
This will be in a bid to boost its industry upgrading and transformation and accelerate the construction of a modern industrial system.
Moving forwards, in the following five years plans are for Kangbashi to aim at developing intelligent manufacturing, ecological and environmental protection, green hydrogen energy, new materials and other fields.
It will also aim to become a main platform for technological development in Ordos, as well as a hub for technological innovation projects.
