The city of Ordos in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region is reportedly taking full advantage of its bountiful wind and solar resources to transform itself into a modern energy demonstration zone.

To date, Ordos has installed wind farms with 397,000 kilowatts of generating capacity and 1.84 million kilowatt-hours capacity of solar power plants.

Among the leading green energy projects is the Tianjiao Lyuneng 500,000 kWh coal mining regeneration area photovoltaic project.

The project is located in Ordos' Ejin Horoo Banner and has an annual solar power generation capacity of 900 million kWh.

It has turned the once-abandoned coal areas to a brand-new purpose and reportedly generates new values through eco-friendly methods.

Meanwhile, the Balangmiao wind farm -- being funded by Ordos Jiayuan New Energy Co in the city's Otog Front Banner -- is scheduled to connect to the national grid and generate power on Dec 25, with an annual capacity of 130 million kWh.

In addition to developing green energy, Ordo is reportedly attaching high priority to rolling out new energy buses in the city.

During December, the Ejin Horoo Bus Station installed 21 charging piles, which can accommodate 42 buses at the same time and effectively meet the current charging needs of 140 pure electric buses.
