Otog Banner in Ordos city – located in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region – has the ambition to make a name for itself nationally in its latest venture.

It's aiming to make it onto the list of the national top 100 counties with strong comprehensive competitiveness during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), adhering to the development concept of the environment as the priority and green development as the guide.

Over the past five years, the total cumulative output value of Otog Banner reached 162.6 billion yuan ($24.40 billion), the number of enterprises with output value exceeding 100 million yuan grew to 26 and the contribution of non-coal industry output value exceeded 80 percent.

The banner was also ranked 20 in the top 100 counties in Western China for five consecutive years.

The banner's investments in the field of people's livelihoods each year have reportedly accounted for more than 70 percent of all fiscal expenditure.

The per capita disposable income of its urban and rural residents reached 49,594 yuan and 21,933 yuan in 2020, an average annual increase of 5.7 percent and 9.1 percent, respectively.

Culture, education, sports, health and national undertakings have reportedly developed in an all-round way.

In terms of its industry development, Otog Banner has formed the four leading industries of coal, electric power, metallurgy and the chemicals.

In addition, it has built seven leading industrial supply chains for coal coking, the chlor-alkali chemicals industry, the fine chemicals industry, natural gas chemicals industry, coal-electricity-smelting, the recycling of waste and logistics supplies.
