Ordos city in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region was recently approved to expand its second-hand car export business, becoming the first city or league in the autonomous region to receive permission.

The announcement was made in the “Notice on Expanding the Regional Scope of Second-hand Export Business,” a document jointly issued by the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Public Security.

China launched its second-hand car export business in April 2019, although Ordos applied to become a pilot area for the second-hand car export business as early as 2018. The city has done considerable work to advance the second-hand car export industry.

The approval will significantly promote the automobile industry's development in Ordos city and surrounding areas and inject new impetus for foreign trade growth.

Ordos has established a complete automobile production and sales industrial system in recent years and formed a standardized second-hand car transaction market system. It has also established a relatively comprehensive overseas automobile after-sales service network.

According to preliminary statistics, there are more than 700,000 heavy-duty trucks in Ordos and surrounding areas, and about 90,000 heavy-duty trucks will be upgraded soon. This means the vehicle source market is sufficient.

Meanwhile, there are 37 motor vehicle inspection institutions in the city, including more than 20 truck inspection institutions and 205 overseas after-sales service outlets for exported vehicles.

Second-hand commercial vehicles from Ordos are popular and enjoy a large market share in Mongolia, Cambodia, Guinea and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
