Ordos city in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region recently started the construction of a 430-kilometer ecological corridor -- to further extend the restoration of the environment along the Ordos section of the Yellow River and to promote local economic development, according to a report in the Inner Mongolia Daily.

Construction of the corridor includes planting trees, alkali-tolerant and drought-tolerant cash crops, repairing grasslands, establishing environmentally friendly cattle and dairy farms and developing sightseeing areas.

The green corridor starts at Hanggin Banner administrative area, passing through Dalad Banner, before finally arriving at Jungar Banner.

The completed corridor will cross the Kubuqi Desert Ecological Restoration and Governance Area, the Yellow River Wetland Biodiversity Conservation Area and Ordos' conservation areas for desert resources.

Based on the water and soil conditions along the corridor, landscape forest belts, desert wetland scenery belts, forest industry areas, desert grassland regeneration areas, agricultural and animal husbandry areas and high-quality seed protection bases will be built.

Currently, the Huangjiehao section of the ecological corridor in Hanggin Banner is undergoing rapid construction.

The Ordos forest and grassland bureau has made a comprehensive plan involving mountains, forests, water, fields and grassland for Huangjiehao, which will include planting trees covering 11,930 mu (795.3 hectares).
