Otog Front Banner in Ordos was honored by the Ministry of Water Resources for its efforts to conserve water, according to a list published by the ministry on March 14.

The banner is the only area of the city that was named on the list, along with an additional 64 counties from across the country.

In a bid to conserve its water resources, Otog Front Banner has launched a comprehensive overall plan, providing fundamental regulations for each industry to follow.

The banner set up an information management platform to monitor the real-time data of water usage by industrial firms.

A tiered water pricing system was also established to help manage and regulate residents’ water consumption. Once a person’s water usage goes beyond a set limit, additional charges will be applied.

The local government is also committed to promoting household appliances that use less water.

In addition, water-saving irrigation techniques have been adopted to further improve efficiency.
