A 10-day shopping festival in the city of Ordos marked its first day at the Ordos International Convention and Exhibition Center on Jan 18, attracting swarms of residents to splurge as part of their plans to prepare for the upcoming Spring Festival. 

Initiated by the Ordos Council for the Promotion of Trade, the management committee of Ordos High-tech Industrial Development Zone, Ordos Bureau of Commerce, China’s e-commerce giant JD Group and Ordos Kangbashi department of commerce and informatization, the event is run by the Ordos International Convention and Exhibition Center and Hohhot New Thinking Convention Service Co. 

The shopping festival was designed to both drum up consumer demand for New Year’s goods, and help Ordos’ private companies expand their sales channels and increase their exposure to more potential buyers.

More than 100 firms registered to take part in the fair, displaying their products over 12 different exhibition areas. The products appearing at the exhibition include dried fruits, sugar and liquor, Spring Festival couplets, Nianhua or New Year’s Paintings, clothing, cashmere products, agricultural products, local specialty products, imported goods, and aquatic products.
