The first phase of a lithium battery materials production project financed by world lithium battery giant Shenzhen BAK Battery Co in Dongsheng district, Ordos, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, is expected to be completed by June next year. 

The project, which drew investment of 1 billion yuan ($144 million), will produce 30,000 tons of lithium battery materials annually. The products will be used in the new energy automobile industry. 

According to Gao Xiaowei, general manager of Ordos Lijia Energy Co which is responsible for the project, the first phase will be finished in June next year, and will be in operation two months later.

The second phase of the project should start in late 2019, Gao said. 

The project is located in Ordos Equipment Manufacturing Base, which, currently, is home to 109 projects, 15 of which are still under construction. The total contractual investment of the 109 projects has reached 259.5 billion yuan. 

The industries in the base cover manufacturing of automobiles and their parts, energy equipment manufacturing, electronic products, environmental protection and new materials production.
