Since China’s reform and opening-up policy was launched in 1978, many stamps themed on Inner Mongolia autonomous region have been issued. Content printed on these stamps includes beautiful scenery, unique culture and major events in the region.
These stamps not only help promote Inner Mongolian culture to the world, bus also record its development over the past 40 years. As Wang Jingyun, vice-president of Inner Mongolia Philatelic Association, said, every stamp tells a story.
A set of two stamps depicting the legend of Wang Zhaojun, one of the four beauties of ancient China, is issued in August 1994. Wang volunteered to marry Huhanye, leader of the Xiongnu, a nomadic nationality in the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24), to ensure ethnic unity. Zhaojun’s tomb is located in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia autonomous region. The set of stamps was issued to promote unity between Han people and ethnic Mongolians. [Photo/people.cn]
