Three firms in Ordos were named and praised by Forbes China for their efficient efforts in ecological preservation, at the Belt and Road International Forum for Non-governmental Cooperation on Ecological Management, held in the city of Wuwei, Northwest China’s Gansu province, on Sept 13.

According to the list revealed by Forbes to honor Chinese firms in combating desertification, 11 companies across the country received the honor, with three of them from Ordos.

The three firms are Elion Resources Group Co, Inner Mongolia Dongda Mongolian King Group Co and Inner Mongolia Yitai Group Co.

The firms honored by Forbes all made outstanding contributions to combating desertification between 2013 and 2017. The areas where desertification was brought under control by the companies was over 667 hectares.

Of the three companies, Elion Resources Group Co was the most prominent in the number of desertification areas it had put under control. Within five years, the company had managed to stop the progression of over 66,667 hectares of desert.

The forum also clarified that the efforts of combating desertification in the Kubuqi Desert, the seventh largest desert in China, were a paradigm change for global desertification control practice.

According to the forum, the “Kubuqi mode” has already been applied in China’s other deserts and will be promoted to more countries along the Belt and Road.

The list was released by Forbes China in partnership with the China Green Foundation (CGF). Since the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, CGF has already raised more than 400 million yuan ($58 million) for use in environmental protection and motivated hundreds of millions of people to get involved in it.
