The Seven-Star Lake scenic site is in the hinterland of the Kubuqi Desert, the seventh-largest desert in China, and covers 8.89 square kilometers. From above, the seven lakes look like the seven stars constituting the Big Dipper, and this is how they got their name.
Constructed by the world-renowned Elion Resources Group, whose chairman – Wang Wenbiao –won the Champions of the Earth award during the UN Environment Assembly in December, the Seven-Star Lakes scenic site displays the remarkable achievements of local people and how the lakes can be a perfect match with the desert.
The scenic area was confirmed as the permanent site of the Kubuqi International Desert Forum by the UN in 2011. In 2008, the site was designated a 4A-grade scenic spot.
