Pupils from Wanzheng Primary School in Dongsheng district, Ordos, along with their teachers and parents, visited Chuankou Primary School in Shanxi province, and celebrated New Year with students there on Dec 30, 2017, according to a local news release.

There were only 12 students at the school, which generally educates children from poorer backgrounds –– many of them left-behind children.

The school has only two teachers – Ren Jianyong and his wife.

Pupils at Wanzheng Primary School used 3,134 yuan ($486.65) they had earned through selling apples to buy clothes, schoolbags and stationery for the left-behind children.

The children’s parents also offered clothes and books to the school, and prepared a dinner for the school’s pupils.
