Kubuqi National Desert Park, which is invested by Yili Group, is located in the hinterland of Kubuqi Desert in Hangjinqi, Ordos City. It is a national 4A-class tourist attraction with an abundance of desert resources and sandy lakes. The park covers an area of 889 hectares, including the 114.6 hectares of Qixing Lake, 10.1 hectares of reed wetland, 380 hectares of grassland, and 383.7 hectares of desert.
Qixing Lake is named after the seven lakes distributed around the Kubuqi National Desert Park as the Big Dipper. A cluster of tenacious greenery spread along the yellow dunes, the world's most prestigious Dakar (official) off-road training routes, endless Wuritu grassland, and a standard 18-hole golf course demonstrate the remarkable achievements of the Kubuqi Desert in combating desertification.
In addition to geographic attractions, unique human activities also stimulated the development of Ordos tourism. The "Love in the bowstring, love in Kubuqi" activity, held this year in Duguitala town of Hangjinqi from April 28 to May 2, contains various events, including the pre-final T3 desert challenge, a wrangler climbing competition, a sheep roast, free hot-pot for thousands of people, a desert music and beer festival, and an awards ceremony.
The number of tourist coming to the area has reached 10 million, and their vehicles now number 20,000; this influx has led to income of 30 million yuan ($4.36 million).
In recent years, the tourism industry in Ordos has gained a rapidly developing momentum. By relying on the International Nadam Fair, the Asian Arts Festival, the International Conference on Innovation and Creativity and many other large-scale conferences and exhibitions, as well as diversified "culture + tourism" "sports + tourism" "competition+ tourism" activities, Ordos has formed a "1+N" system (one large international activity plus more than 100 regional tourism festivals). Ordos was also recently included by the National Tourism Administration in the second group of "National Tourism Demonstration Areas" -- a new glory for the desert city.
