According to the Ordos Tourism Bureau, Ordos currently has several desert tourism areas, including Resonant Sand Gorge, Kubuqi, Yinkentala, Engebei, Qixing Lake, and a desert vehicle off-road base. They form a desert industrial cluster with the most complete projects and the widest-ranging customer base in current domestic desert tourism.
The projects include desert sightseeing, desert off-road travel, desert vacation and others. Visitors can not only experience unusual activities, such as camel team marches, sand skiing, desert drifting, and helicopter sightseeing, but also enjoy typical desert scenery including sand dunes and rare plants.
Many of the tourists are from the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Yangtze River Delta, and the Pearl River Delta. The Resonant Sand Gorge, Qixing Lake, and Engebei are particularly oriented to an international market.
"The Resonant Sand Gorge is equipped with the longest desert ropeway, the largest desert camel team, a first-class Mongolian song and dance troupe giving the most marvelous performances, and more than 10 kinds of thrilling desert activities," director of Ordos Tourism Bureau Gao Hua said, adding that more and more domestic and foreign tourists come to this region to experience the ethnic culture of Inner Mongolia.
The Resonant Sand Gorge is currently a leading domestic desert vacation project. In winter, a large number of tourists from Guangdong come to see the Gorge's combination of snow and sand.
As there is no light pollution, stars are highly visible in the desert. "The stars here are the brightest," said Wang Wei, a visitor to Kubuqi National Desert Park.
